UofL Student Development and the Cardinal Athletic Fund teamed to host a Women of Influence Event on April 25
Women of Influence, a mentoring initiative lead by the Cardinal Athletic Fund and the Student-Athlete Development department, hosted a round table event on April 25 at the Speed Art Museum. The event featured keynote speaker and Cardinal Forever, Miranda Popp.
Â
"Being a Cardinal athlete sets one up for excellence and success in life after graduation," Popp said. "Remembering that is key, and growing with gratitude solidifies that already strong foundation." Â
Â
Popp runs Magnolia Media and serves as a contributing editor, spokesperson, and social media manager of Today's Woman. She spoke to a group of student-athletes and young Louisville Athletics staff members on the importance of positivity in the workplace, leaning on skills learned from sport, and finding confidence in life after athletics.
Â
A Woman of Influence was positioned at each of the 10 tables in the room where they led small group discussions with the student-athletes and young professionals. These discussions were based on the main themes of the keynote address, but table leaders were encouraged to steer conversation in whichever direction was most useful to the group.
Â
Emily Mattey, a University of Louisville cheerleader and attendee of the event, said she left feeling inspired. "Listening to the other women who have made such an impact on others' lives has motivated me to be the best person I can be."
Â
The Women of Influence program strives to connect powerful women in the city to Louisville student athletes, coaches, and young employees. The next Women of Influence event is set for June.
