February 09, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Head coach Rex Ecarma earned his 450th career win.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following their 7-0 win over Wright State, the University of Louisville men's tennis team secured their second sweep of the day with a 7-0 victory over the Charlotte 49ers on Friday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. With the victory, Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma earned his 450th career win.
"We've been practicing really hard," said Ecarma. "After the Dartmouth match we didn't have the start that we wanted, but I still believed in this team. I know this group of guys, I have a lot of confidence in them, and that's what I've been sharing with them all week. Sometimes things don't go your way, but we're going to be stronger for it, and that's what you all saw today."
The Cardinals (6-3) gained the initial advantage in doubles action as No. 18 Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn earned a 6-4 win over Sam Rice and Benjamin Wayand at No. 1. George Hedley and Nicolas Rouanet then clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Oriol Puig Forne and Alejandro Garcia Moreno from No. 3. Federico Gomez and Brandon Lancaster were up 6-5 over Luca Keist and Constandinos Christoforou on court two before play was halted.
In singles play, Rouanet defeated Garcia Moreno in decisive fashion, earning the second point for the Cardinals in a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the No. 3. Moments later, Gomez topped Wayand on court four by a mark of 6-4, 6-4 to move the Cardinals' score to 3-0. Lancaster then sealed the match for Louisville with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Puig Forne from the No. 5.
In other singles action, Hedley downed Rice 6-4, 6-3 from No. 6 to increase the Cardinals' lead to 5-0. After a competitive first set, Wynn dominated the second set to take a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory over Christoforou at No. 2. Kougoucheff completed the sweep for Louisville with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over No. 63 Keist at No. 1.
Next up, the Cardinals will travel south to Atlanta for a matchup against the Georgia State Panthers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
