Cardinals improve to 11-2 with victory over Colonels
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In the opening match of a doubleheader, the University of Louisville women's tennis team continued its outstanding open to the season with a 7-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky Friday morning at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (11-1, 2-0 ACC) rode a strong doubles performance and a trio of decisive singles wins to a well-earned victory over the Colonels (4-4).
In the doubles competition, Abbie Pahz and Tiffany Huber started the day with a 6-1 third position win over Laura Argente and Putri Dwinta. At No. 2, Aleksandra Mally and Ariana Rodriguez sealed the opening point with a 6-4 win, while the remaining No. 1 match featuring Raven Neely and Sena Suswam was abandoned with the pair leading 5-4.
In singles, Maya Smith increased Louisville's lead with a swift 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6, followed by Neely's 6-0, 6-4 fourth position win. In nearly simultaneous finishes, the Cards clinched the match with wins by Rodriguez at No. 6 (6-0, 6-2) and Mally at No. 1 (6-1, 6-3). At third position, Huber pulled through in a second set tiebreaker to post a 6-3, 7-6 (3) to make the match 6-0. Finally, Pahz overcame a tough first set to best Kristina Lagoda, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4).
The Cardinals return to the court later this afternoon to face Austin Peay at 4 p.m. at Bass-Rudd. Live stats will be available on GoCards.com
