Swimming Concludes Competition at UofL Invitational

The Cardinals earned six NCAA 'B' cuts on the final day of competition.
The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming teams earned six more NCAA 'B' cuts on the final day of the UofL Invitational Sunday evening at Ralph Wright Natatorium.

"I'm pleased with the effort," said head coach Arthur Albiero. "I loved the energy that we had in the building today. I think it was a great testament to our team. We had some great swims, especially for some kids that are finishing their season now. I think it sets the tone for us going forward into ACCs this week for the ladies and the next week for the men."

In the preliminary session, Keegan Foulke grabbed the first NCAA 'B' cut of the day for the Cardinals with a time of 3:53.69. Chase Sellers posted a 3:55.15.

Rachel Grooms dropped over two seconds from her morning swim with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:46.88 in the finals of the 200 free. Alina Jungklaus also improved in finals with a time of 1:52.66. In the men's event, Abel Aulbach achieved an NCAA 'B' standard in a time of 1:37.49. Spencer Carl touched the wall with a 1:38.91, followed by Derek Sander in a time of 1:40.07.

In the 100 fly, Hannah Magnuson earned her first 'B' cut of the evening with a time of 53.81. Paige Ezell recorded a 1:00.06. Jacob DeMercurio sprinted to a time of 49.01 in the men's event.

Silvia Guerra continued her strong performance with 2:13.48 in the 200 breast, securing an NCAA 'B' cut by over two seconds. Rachel Howard took three seconds off her prelim time with a 2:17.89, while Caitlin Ahern registered a time of 2:19.38. Todd Owen was the only competitor for the men in the 200 breast, touching with a time of 1:59.91.

Hannah Magnuson captured her second 'B' cut of the evening with a 54.36 in the 100 back. Moments later, Derek Sander broke the 50-second barrier in the men's event with a 49.59.

In the final event of the evening, Abel Aulbach sprinted to a time of 20.76 in the 50 free. Jacob DeMercurio followed just behind with a time of 20.78.

Next up, the Louisville women will travel south to Greensboro, North Carolina for the ACC Championships. Competition is slated to begin on Wednesday, February 14 and will conclude on February 17.
