Men's swimming & diviing walks away with fifth-straight title
On Tuesday, January 23, the University of Louisville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the eighth-annual Student-Athlete Talent Show at the School of Music's Comstock Hall. The 13 performances showcased a wide variety of talents in front of a large captivated audience filled with students, staff and coaches.
Â
The SAAC is proud to announce that $800 was raised for Metro Parks Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation, an organization which offers a wide range of recreational activities for individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities, along with their friends and family. This organization was represented by guest judge, BJ Levis, who teaches the class "Diverse Populations in Physical Activity and Health" in the College of Education. Students study the social and cultural systems of diverse groups, related to physical activity and health.
Â
Many teams showed off their rhythm and dance while others shined by their instrumental renditions of today's hits. For the first time, the audience was able to assist the judges in choosing which team would come out with the coveted trophy. Both judges and fans were in agreement, leading to men's swimming and diving winning their fifth consecutive first-place finish. Their take on the TV show "So Sharp" had the audience engaged as they presented their take on the lives of some of their fellow student-athletes and head coach Todd Sharp.Â
Â
Nolan Smith, men's swimming & diving alum and four-time talent show champion, served as one of the judges. "It was fun to be back as a judge and the Cards certainly displayed that they have more than athletic talent."
Â
Men's tennis finished second with a creative musical composition and an engaging, captivating performance. Third place went to lacrosse which saw the greatest improvement in talent show history – it was evident the work and preparation they put into their choreographed dance.Â
Â
Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development, Amy Calabrese loved the quality of entertainment from the night's events. "This event is an example of why Louisville Athletics has a great community of student-athletes. More than 250 student-athletes attended the event to support each other, have a laugh, and support a great cause in our community."
