Cross Country Announces 2017 Schedule

Cardinals will host three home events, including the ACC and NCAA Championships
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville fans will have four chances to see the Cardinals run in person this fall, as the newly released 2017 schedule features meets at E.P Tom Sawyer Park. The Cards will host three of the four meets, including the ACC Championship and the NCAA Championship meets.Â
"This fall will be an exciting season for our program as well as our fan base," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We are fortunate to be hosting the best series of races in the history of our program with the Pre-Nationals, ACC Championships and the NCAA Championships all coming to E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. A home schedule of this magnitude shows the commitment our administration made toward cross country, which is second to none."
The men and women will open the 2017 season in Knoxville, Tenn. with the UT Duals on September 2. The next week they will compete at the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
Louisville will then run in three straight meets at home, beginning with the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 30, hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission. The Cardinals will have a weekend off before hosting the Pre-Nationals on Oct. 14. Â Â The final meet to prepare for the postseason.Â
The University of Louisville will host the 2017 ACC Cross Country Championships for the first time on Oct. 27. Last season the Louisville women finished fourth at the ACC Championship while the men finished seventh.Â
The Cardinals will travel to Panorama Farms, Va. to compete in the Southeast Regional on Nov. 10. The Louisville women had a breakout performance last year at the regionals, finishing second for the best finish in school history.Â
The Cardinals automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships, earning the first appearance in school history. The Louisville men finished 11th while Edwin Kibichiy placed third and advanced to the NCAA Championship.Â
