Madison Cousineau and Darrianne Hale will join the Cardinals in the fall of 2017
University of Louisville softball coach Sandy Pearsall has announced the addition of two newcomers to the 2017-18 roster. Madison Cousineau and Darrianne Hale will join the Cardinals in the fall of 2017.

"We are excited to welcome Madison and Darrianne to the Louisville softball family," said UofL head coach Sandy Pearsall. "Along with their individual skill sets, they will also bring added experience to our young team and we expect them to have an immediate impact both on and off the field."

Madison Cousineau
Position: Catcher
Bats/Throws: R/R
Hometown: Otto, N.C.
Last School: Mississippi State
High School: Franklin

Madison Cousineau will begin her junior year at Louisville after spending two seasons at Mississippi State. In 2017, the catcher posted a .364 average with one RBI to go along with a .417 on-base percentage as the Bulldogs went 36-22 and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. Â

The Otto, N.C. native attended Franklin High School where she was a four-time all-conference selection and earned all-district and all-state honors three times. She played for the Georgia Elite Gold 18-Under travel team and helped lead her Tennessee Fury travel team to the 2014 Amateur Softball Association Gold 16-Under National Championship.

"Madison has developed her game the past two years at Mississippi State. She brings a great deal of softball knowledge and will communicate well with our pitching staff. Madison has a strong arm and will definitely provide depth behind the plate. She will also add power to our offense."

Darrianne Hale joins the Cardinals from Butler Community College where she helped the Grizzlies win the 2017 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championship. The rising junior earned second team All-Jayhawk Conference honors as a pitcher/utility player after posting a .407 batting average with 22 home runs and 60 RBIs. In the circle, she carried a 6-0 record with a 1.87 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 45.0 innings of work. Hale was also a two-time Jayhawk Conference Division Player of the Week honoree last season.Â

Prior to her time at Butler Community College, Hale spent her freshman season at University of the Incarnate Word and posted a .333 batting average with three home runs and 15 RBIs while carrying a 5.08 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 51.0 innings.

The Mesquite, Texas native played for Bishop Lynch College Prep where she was a three-time all-state and four-time all-district selection. As a senior, she registered a .589 batting average and tallied 11 home runs with a 13-3 record and a 1.10 ERA in the circle and was the District 1-5A Most Valuable Player. Â
