Rowing Closes Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational with Four Wins

Cardinals win varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four races on final day
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Louisville rowing team closed the sixth annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational in strong fashion earning four wins in its six races on Sunday morning at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue.
Louisville's first victory of the day came in the varsity eight race as the crew of Annie Pape (coxswain), Sarah Podwojski, Kirsti Harrison, Lucie Heranova, Abbi Fitts, Sally Rozumalski, Allison Zimmermann, Claire Bahain and Rebecca Busk covered the course in a time of 6:25.063 defeating second-place Tulsa by more than two seconds. Notre Dame was a close third, while West Virginia rounded out the field of four.
The Cardinals continued their winning with a victory in the varsity four boat as the crew of Kim Streetz (coxswain), Samantha Stoll, Maddy Staubitz, Mackenzie Garland and Emma Ison crossed the finish line in a time of 7:09.983. Notre Dame was second in a time of 7:14.384, while Tulsa and WVU followed.
Louisville's second varsity eight boat, featuring Kate Allport (coxswain), Kaitlin Ulbert, Madeleine Chesney, Rachael Schmetzer, Kiara Loucks, Rebecca Yaklic, Erin Enk, Leah Stump and Sophie Schulz, added the third victory of the morning finishing in a time of 6:32.165, more than five seconds clear of Notre Dame. The final win of the day for the Cardinals came in the second varsity four race as the crew of Perie Howard (coxswain), Gabi Biedenharn, Caroline Lynch, Mallory Burnett and Riley Kerber had a time of 7:21.318, while Tulsa was second at 7:42.929.
Up next, the Louisville rowing team will next compete at the ACC/Big Ten Double Duel on April 1 in Bloomington, Ind.
