Cards fall 5-2
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville Women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Notre Dame in the teams' ACC opener Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Â
"Notre Dame is a traditional tennis power. They always have a good team and are well coached by Jay Louderback does a great job getting his team prepared. He has had an injury or two, and we have had an injury or two. Our lineups were a little bit different today on both sides. I feel like we are different from teams from years past because I am not sure those teams would have put themselves in the position to win the match like this one did today. We didn't win but we legitimately put ourselves in a position to win four points. The other loss we had was our own doing. But today, it was what Notre Dame did."
Â
Louisville took the first point of the match with wins on courts one and three. The Cardinals gained an early edge when Olivia Boesing and Tiffany Huber defeated Rachel Chong and Zoe Spence, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. The point was decided at No. 1 where Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz picked up a 6-2 win over Jane Fennelly and Monica Robinson. The Notre Dame duo of Mary Closs and Allison Miller defeated Jessie Paul and Ariana Rodriguez 6-4 at the two spot.
Â
In singles action, Louisville gained its only other point of the match at the No. 4 position where Tiffany Huber beat Jane Fennelly 6-2, 6-2. Notre Dame responded on court five, where Ariana Rodriguez battled with Mary Closs, but the Notre Dame player prevailed 6-2, 6-2 to make the score 2-1.
Â
Rachel Chong beat Olivia Boesing 7-6 (2), 6-2 on court six, followed by Aleksandra Mally falling to Monica Robinson 6-3, 6-2 on court 1 to give Notre Dame the deciding fourth point. After two hard-fought sets on court two, Notre Dame's Allison Miller defeated Mariana Humberg 7-5, 7-5. To finish out the afternoon, Abbie Pahz went to three sets, but ultimately fell to Zoe Spence 6-7 (8), 6-4, 11-9..
