Women's Tennis Set to Host East Michigan and Liberty

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville will host Eastern Michigan University and Liberty University in Women's Tennis this weekend at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals are set to face the Eagles on Friday at 3p.m. and the Flame on Sunday at noon.

Louisville is undefeated this season under head coach Mark Beckham, coming off a win over WKU last Saturday. This will mark the first time Louisville has faced Eastern Michigan since 2013, where the Cardinals bested the Eagles 6-1. The team is led by junior, Mariana Humberg, and redshirt sophomore, Aleksandra Mally, who are a combined 8-0 on the season. Humberg has won all of her matches with only having lost 11 games in all of her matches, while Mally has lost 18. The doubles teams have started the season off with a record of 11-1 in the first four matches of the season.

Eastern Michigan is off to a 1-4 start this season,but returns all but one from the 2015-16 roster. Head coach, Ryan Ray, is beginning his 10th season with the Eagles after taking over in the 2006-7 season. Redshirt Junior, Maria Paula Ribero leads the team this season with a singles record of 2-1, and a doubles record of 2-3.

Liberty opens up their season Wednesday against Longwood and then faces East Tennessee State on Saturday before coming to Louisville. The Flame return all but two players from last year's roster, and only add one to their roster this year. Jeff Maren, who became head coach in summer of 2012, holds a 60-35 overall record, with a conference record of 28-8. Liberty finished last season with a school-record 8 Big South wins, and Coach Maren was named Big South Coach of the Year. Junior, Evangeline Christ, led the team in her sophomore year in singles, with an overall record of 16-7 for the year, and returns this year to try to best her own record.
