Madura and Wolf Attend Fall ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Meeting
December 08, 2017 | Beyond the Buzzer
Casey Madura and Adam Wolf represented UofL at the ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee fall meeting
Casey Madura (Lacrosse) and Adam Wolf (Baseball) represented the University of Louisville at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) fall meeting which was held November 16 and 17 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Â
Madura and Wolf marked the ninth pair of student-athletes selected to represent UofL at the ACC SAAC In-Person Meetings. The ACC SAAC provides a channel of communication through which student-athletes, conference administrators, institutional representatives, NCAA representatives and coaches can discuss and take action on issues relating to rules and regulations, student-athlete welfare, and community service.
Â
Day one of meetings highlighted mental health awareness and helping institutions better their resources to enhance overall wellness. Later in the day, Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality (RISE), a diversity leadership program, presented to the group and gave them tools to be more inclusive on campus. They taught the student-athletes how talk about social issues while honoring the diversity and integrity throughout the schools. Student-athletes also spent time reviewing and analyzing newly implemented and upcoming NCAA legislation. They focused on early recruiting, and transfer process protocol. They also reflected on the new time management plans which were implemented in August.
Â
In addition to collaborating with fellow student-athletes, ACC SAAC reps shared a joint session with the ACC Life Skills Directors. This allowed for the unique opportunity to collaborate as a conference and brainstorm ideas to better the student-athlete experience. This marked the first time both Life Skills administrators and student-athletes came together at the conference office. Associate Athletics Director for Student Life, Christine Simatacolos attended the meeting with Madura and Wolf. Â "It was wonderful to meet and hear from student-athlete leaders from around the conference. Adam and Casey represented Louisville well and added to the important conversation about how we support our student-athletes at all ACC schools."
Â
Wolf, a junior and SAAC executive board member had a lot of takeaways from his time in Greensboro. "It was a great experience getting to meet and get opinions from all of the other ACC schools. We learned a lot about what goes on at other universities and how they handle issues. Casey and I had a blast, and it was a successful weekend."
Â
Madura also enjoyed her time as a liaison for UofL and added "hearing from other schools about how they promote SAAC generated many ideas for how we can make our SAAC more known on our campus. Overall, Adam and I enjoyed our time and found it fascinating to hear other ACC institutions create their student-athlete experiences."
