Cards defeat Georgia pair in three sets
The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn defeated Georgia's Walker Duncan and Wayne Montgomery 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 Wednesday evening to advance to the second round of the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship.
Â
"It was our U.S. Open moment playing at night and under the lights," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Parker and Chris showed a lot of resiliency tonight. Nine days ago they won the Ohio Valley Regional on very fast indoor courts and today they beat a very good doubles team that is coached by a living legend on very slow outdoor courts."
Â
The Cardinals' 29th-ranked duo earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament faced Georgia's Duncan and Montgomery in the first round. Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn picked up a 6-3 victory in the first set, but the Bulldogs prevailed 6-1 in the second to force a third set which Louisville won 10-7. Â
Â
"We had a fast start, then they surged back," said Ecarma. "We expected that because these were key players from Final Four team. This set up the tiebreaker which Park and Chris love to play. I think we are 6 for 7 in breakers this month. We will enjoy tonight and then prepare for the next round."
