Cardinal pair extends win streak to seven matches
The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn have advanced to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship quarterfinals after beating Clemson's Alex Favrot and Simon Baudry in the round of 16 Thursday in Palm Desert, Calif.
Â
"Parker and Chris got down 1-3 to start the match but showed poise and won the next five games to win the first set 6-3," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "This Clemson team was tough and is coached by our former assistant, John Boetsch, who is one of the best young coaches in America. Parker and Koug are now acclimated to the conditions especially the slow courts and look comfortable. They are great to coach because whatever play you tell them to run they can execute. We are having fun in the desert!"
Â
The fourth-seeded and No. 29-ranked Cardinal duo of junior Morin-Kougoucheff and sophomore Wynn beat the Clemson pair 6-3, 6-2 to move to Friday's quarterfinal round where they will face Florida's seventh-seeded McClain Kessler and Duarte Vale.
Â
"It was 1-1 in the second set on Parker's serve," said Ecarma. "We were down 15-40 but we played some clutch tennis to dig ourselves out of a hole then went up 4-1. We then held serve to finish it out."
