Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn Post Runner-Up Finish in ITA All-American Consolation Doubles Draw
October 08, 2017 | Men's Tennis
No. 29-ranked Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn qualify for ITA National Fall Championships Nov. 1-5
The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn advanced to the Intercollegiate All-American Tennis Championships Consolation Doubles Draw and posted a runner-up finish Sunday afternoon at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Â
"With their appearance in the finals, No. 29-ranked Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn qualify for ITA National Fall Championships which will take place Nov. 1-5 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif.:
Â
"I'm so proud of Chris and Parker on setting each other up for good finishes to points," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Chris was very good, especially from the baseline with well-placed ground strokes and serves. Parker was fierce at the net even though he got hit with the ball hard a couple of times he did not back off. They have played four high quality matches in a row and they look like one of the top teams in the country."
Â
Junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff (Capbreton, France) and Wynn (North Richland Hills, Texas) teamed to beat Stanford's Michael Genender and Sameer Kumar 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 in the semifinals for their third straight win in the tournament. Louisville's 29th-ranked duo fell 6-3, 6-1 to Florida State's 15th ranked Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain.
Â
"FSU was solid all the way though," said Ecarma. "Gracia took control of the match and we had no answer. For the first time this week, we were out of sync and did not play to our potential. By making the finals, we qualified for the prestigious ITA Fall National Championships which will pit the Regional Champions and the top 32 doubles teams in America. Parker and Chris join the elite few doubles teams in UofL history to have qualified for this event. It will be held at Indian Wells which is the site of one of the biggest professional tournaments of the year. This will be a great experience for them to be among the best of the best in our sport."
Â
The Cardinals return to action next weekend when they host the Louisville Fall Invitational.
