Second-seeded Cards upend Vanderbilt's top-seeded duo of McPhee and Rowe

The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn defeated Vanderbilt's Lachlan McPhee and Billy Rowe 7-6, 7-6 to capture the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regional doubles title Monday morning at Tennessee's Goodfriend Tennis Center.

The 2017 Ohio Valley Regional champions will return to action Nov. 1-5 when they compete in ITA National Fall Championships which will take place Nov. 1-5 in Indian Wells, Calif.

"I am very proud of Chris and Parker," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "They have played a lot of doubles matches this month from Florida to All-Americans to here at the regionals. They never showed any physical and mental fatigue but honestly played better and better. They now have a greater level of chemistry since they are relatively a new team. They are fun to coach and run good scripts. They are the only the second UofL doubles team in history to win a regional championship."

The No. 29-ranked duo of junior Morin-Kougoucheff (Capbreton, France) and sophomore Wynn (North Richland Hills, Texas) entered the weekend as the No. 2 seed. After receiving first-round bye, they won four straight matches to reach Monday's final which featured the tournament's top two seeds. The Cardinal pair prevailed against Vanderbilt's 16^th-ranked McPhee and Rowe 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4).

Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn become the second Louisville doubles team to win the Ohio Valley Regional doubles title after Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk who won the championship in 2010.
