Lancaster, Morin-Kougoucheff, Rouanet and Wynn advance in singles; Hedley/Gomez, Wynn/Morin-Kougoucheff win in doubles
The University of Louisville men's tennis team advanced four singles players and two doubles teams to the round of 16 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Regionals Friday at the University of Tennessee's Goodfriend Tennis Center.Â
Â
"This was a good day for the Cardinals," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "The top 128 players from 22 universities started singles competition yesterday morning and now the final 16 are left and four of them are Nicolas, Brandon, Parker and Chris. All four grinded out two wins each against very good players. We are the only university here left with four competitors. We also have two doubles teams in the final 16 as well. Our extremely tough September tournament schedule is now paying off."
Â
In singles action, junior Brandon Lancaster, the No. 31 seed defeated Indiana's Will Piekarsky 6-2, 6-2 and upended Kentucky's sixth-seeded Trey Yates 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 to advance in the tournament. Lancaster is joined in the round of 16 by senior Nicolas Rouanet topped Indiana's Zach Broadney 7-5, 6-0 and Kai Lemke from Memphis 6-3, 7-6(6). Junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff registered a 6-3, 6-4 win over IUPUI's Jac Newis and followed by outlasting the No. 28 seed Felix Rauch from Memphis 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5).
