Wynn and Lampasas claim 'A' doubles, Lampasas wins 'A' singles, Gomez captures 'B' singles titles
The University of Louisville men's tennis team earned three championship titles at the Louisville Fall Invitational on Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. In a highly successful tournament, the Cardinals registered wins in 24 matches throughout the weekend.
Senior Ciro Lampasas teamed with sophomore Parker Wynn to capture the 'A' doubles title and then won the 'A' singles championship. Junior Federico Gomez defeated teammate junior George Hedley in the finals of the 'B' singles championship.
Â
"We were in three divisions in the Louisville Fall Invitational and we won all three divisions, so I can't ask for anything more," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "There were about 14 other high-quality teams, so for us to put four players out there, winning three divisions is a really big deal."
Â
In 'A' doubles semifinal action, Louisville juniors George Hedley and Federico Gomez edged Chattanooga's Niklas Gerdes and Simon Busmante 8-4, while the Cardinal duo of sophomore Parker Wynn and senior Ciro Lampasas defeated Middle Tennessee's Nicolas Buitrago and Jan Porteset 8-1 to set up an all-Cardinal championship match. In the finals, Wynn and Lampasas went on to secure the title over Hedley and Gomez by a score of 8-4.
Â
In the singles 'A' finals, Lampasas notched his second championship of the weekend, topping Lipscomb's Alejandro Manzanares 6-4, 7-5.
Â
The singles 'B' division featured another all-Cardinal championship match between Gomez and Hedley. Ultimately, Gomez came out on top, winning the title in a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
Â
The Cardinals return to action on Thursday, Oct. 19, traveling to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Ohio Valley Regional.
