Cardinals Travel to Lexington for Battle of the Bluegrass

ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville won its second straight match while winning on the road for the first time in 2016 with Friday's 2-0 victory at No. 14 UConn. Newcomer Mohamed Thiaw delivered his second goal of the season in the win over the Huskies, while sophomore Tate Schmitt broke through for his first goal of 2016 after leading the team with seven last season.
The Cardinals returned eight players with 13 or more starts from last year's team, including the top three goal scorers in sophomore Tate Schmitt (seven goals), senior Daniel Johnson (five goals) and junior Tim Kubel (five goals). Schmitt was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team, while Kubel (First Team) and Johnson (Second Team) were tabbed All-ACC selections last season.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Ranked 17th in last week's NSCAA poll, Kentucky enters Tuesday's match at 2-0-1 on the season after drawing with Dartmouth last Friday in Lexington. Last season, the Wildcats were 12-5-2 overall and won the C-USA title with a 7-0-1 record before falling 2-1 to Drake in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Championship.

Tuesday marks the 31st meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Wildcats with the series even at 13-13-4. Louisville has won each of the last two meetings and five of the last six overall. In their last visit to Lexington, the Cardinals earned a 2-1 triumph at Bell Soccer Complex on Sept. 23, 2014.

Entering week three of the season, Louisville's 17-match schedule features nine teams ranked in the most recent NSCAA poll, including four of the top six teams in the nation. Along with No. 17 UK, the Cardinals are slated to face No. 2 Clemson, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 5 Indiana, No. 6 Syracuse, No. 11 Boston College, No. 12 Virginia, No. 14 UConn and No. 21 Wake Forest. Additionally, 2016 foes NC State, Butler, Saint Louis and Ohio State were among the teams also receiving votes.

• Louisville was just 1-6-1 on the road last season.
• The Cardinals were 6-3-2 at home last season and are 14-6-6 all-time at Lynn Stadium, now in its third season as the home pitch for Louisville.
