Hedley and Wynn Advance to Singles Quarterfinals at Southern Intercollegiate Championships

Cards go 5-1 on day two of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships

University of Louisville men's tennis players George Hedley and Parker Wynn have advanced to the Division II quarterfinals in singles and the Cardinals posted five wins on day two of the Southern Intercollegiate Championship on Saturday.

The day began with a round of doubles which featured a win for the duo of Wynn and Nicolas Rouanet. The freshman and junior defeated Lander's Julies Vaughtier and Eirik Groner 6-1 in the Division II bracket. The tandem of sophomores Hedley and Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff fell 6-3 to South Carolina's Sam Swank and Yancy Dennis in a Division I doubles match.

In singles action, Hedley defeated Tennessee Tech's Marcos Bernardes 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 while Wynn pcked up a 7-5, 6-1 decision over Texas Tech's Jackson Cobb. Both players advanced to Sunday's quarterfinals.

Rouanet and Morin-Kougoucheff also picked up singles victories in the Division I consolation bracket. Rouanet beat South Carolina's Wood Benton 7-5, 6-2 while Morin-Kougoucheff bested Eastern Kentucky's Ramon Van Flyman 6-3, 6-2.

"We had a solid day with a 5-1 record" said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Nicolas recorded his first UofL wins defeating South Carolina in singles and Lander in doubles with Parker Wynn. I am happy that George and Parker both advanced to the Division II quarterfinals. This division is extremely competitive with players who are ranked as high as #73 in the nation in singles and #6 in doubles and also a lot of starters for nationally ranked schools. Parker was a perfect 2-0 today and is so mature for a freshman. I compliment his parents in doing such a good job preparing him for independence."
