Gayton scores only goal for Louisville, which opens regular season Friday at Lynn Stadium against Butler
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Behind a goal from junior Jack Gayton, the University of Louisville men's soccer team played to a 1-1 exhibition draw against UAB on Saturday night at BBVA Compass Field in a match halted early due inclement weather.
Playing their second and final preseason match of 2016, the Cardinals struck first as Gayton connected on a header in the ninth minute of action for the early 1-0 lead. The scoring sequence started when junior Tim Kubel controlled a corner kick from sophomore Danny Reynolds and played the ball into the box to Gayton, who scored inside the far post.
The host Blazers evened the score at 1-1 on a goal from Henrique Sposito in the 19th minute of play. The match remained even until the 40th minute, when play was stopped due to lightning. Following a one hour delay, the game was officially called due to inclement weather.
Up next, the Cardinals will open their 2016 regular season schedule at home against Butler on Friday at 7:30 p.m., at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Click here for more information on the numerous fan-friendly events slated for Louisville's home-opener, including "buy one, get one free" tickets.
