Louisville Advances All Five Boats to Grand Finals at ACC Championship

Cardinals win second varsity four, third varsity eight heat races; Saturday’s action begins at 8:05 a.m., ET
CLEMSON, S.C. - The Louisville rowing team won a pair of heat races and advanced all five of its boats to the grand finals during the first day of competition at the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship on Friday at Lake Hartwell.
The Cardinals registered heat race wins in the second varsity four and third varsity eight events for the second consecutive season at the ACC Championship. Louisville also earned a runner-up finish in its varsity four heat race and was third in its varsity eight and second varsity eight heat races on Friday at the 17th annual ACC rowing regatta. Reigning champion and fifth-ranked Virginia swept all five of its heat races to lead the way entering Saturday's finals.
 Louisville's second varsity four crew finished in a time of 7:43.018 and was more than six seconds clear of second-place Syracuse. The Cardinals' third varsity eight boat crossed the finish line in a time of 6:56.244, almost 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Syracuse.
Saturday's championship schedule will begin for Louisville at 8:15 a.m., ET with the varsity eight grand final. The Cardinals will continue their final day or racing in the Palmetto State with the second varsity eight grand final at 8:40 a.m., the varsity four grand final at 9:05 a.m., the second varsity four grand final at 9:30 a.m., and the third varsity eight grand final at 9:55 a.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m., while all of Saturday's racing will be televised by ESPN3.
