Molly Skapik shot a 3-over-par 75 and is tied for 18th.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Molly Skapik shot a 3-over-75 on Friday and paced the University of Louisville women's golf team, which compiled a 23-over-par 311 through the first round of the ACC Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
Skapik, who is tied for 18th, finished the day with an eagle after clubbing a pair of double bogeys on the back nine. Her eagle came on an impressive par-5, 486-yard hole. Despite bogeying her first hole, Skapik responded with three birdies over her next six holes.
Louisville, which stands in 11th after the 18 holes, had one of the stronger par-5 averages with a 4.90. The Cardinals, though, managed just 44 pars and nine birdies collectively at Sedgefield Country Club.
Freshman Ellen Kehoe produced the Cardinals' second-best performance, carding a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 27th. Making her first postseason appearance, the Campbellsville, Ky., native struggled on the front nine that resulted with a 5-over-par. She regained her composure on the turn, putting for birdie three times and becoming the only player to finish even or below par on the back nine.
Seniors Katie Mitchell and Laura Restrepo had the third- and fourth-best scores on the team, respectively.
Mitchell, who is tied for 47th with a 7-over-par 79, opened the day with par on six-consecutive holes, but hit a double bogey on No. 7 and then a bogey on No. 8 to put her at 3-over-par on the front side. Restrepo logged a 9-over-par 81 and is tied for 52nd.
Defending champion Virginia currently leads the pack with a 5-under-par 283, and Wake Forest and Duke are tied for second behind 6-over-par 294 scores.
The Cardinals resume action on Saturday for the second round, teeing off with Notre Dame and Virginia Tech at 8 a.m.
