Cards fall 4-3

The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Middle Tennessee Sunday morning at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"It is frustrating to lose a match like this but I have to give Middle Tennessee credit because I do feel like they beat us, we didn't lose this match," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "I constantly preach to this team to learn from every match. If we improve because of this tight loss it will help us throughout the rest of the season."

The Cards dropped the doubles point when MTSU took the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. But Sena Suswam and Olivia Boesing paired to beat Darya Shulzhanok and Sarah Sediri 6-3 at No. 2.

Middle Tennessee rolled 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 and 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 but then had to dig in to battle a determined squad of Cardinals. Jessie Paul pulled out a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 three setter over Giulia Squadrin at No. 3 to score the first point. Ariana Rodriguez defeated Costanza Magazzini 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5. Olivia Boesing had a comeback win at No. 6, outlasting Alory Pereira 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3) for the Cards' final point.

The Cards move to 5-1 on the season and play Murray State at 4 p.m. for the second half of the doubleheader.
