
Women’s Golf Tied for Seventh at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

Katie Mitchell is tied for 12th after an even-par 72 in the opening round.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Katie Mitchell shot an even-par 72, and the University of Louisville women's golf team is tied for seventh after shooting a 6-over-par 294 in the opening round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday.
Mitchell started the day with six-consecutive pars before a bogey on No. 2. With birdies on Nos. 5 and 13, she moved into a tie for 12th. Laura Restrepo and Jacqueline Twitty each shot a 1-over-par 73 and are tied for 20th in a field of 88.
The No. 32 Cardinals, tied with 16th-ranked Iowa State, trail the clubhouse leaders Georgia and Texas Tech, which each concluded the day at Rio Mar Country Club River Course with a 5-under-par 283.
Restrepo had a strong start, shooting a pair of birdies within her first four holes. She finished the back nine with a 1-under-par 35.
Skapik, who is tied for 46th with a 4-over-par 76, rounded out the Cardinals' top four scorers.
Louisville, which finished the day with a field-leading 60 pars, returns to action for the second of the three-day event on Tuesday, with all golfers set to tee off at 9 a.m. ET.
