
Women’s Basketball Signees Evans, Kakala Named to Naismith Preseason Watch List

Dana Evans and Loretta Kakala are two of the 50 high school student-athletes on the list.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – University of Louisville women's basketball signees Dana Evans and Loretta Kakala were named to the Naismith Trophy High School Girl's preseason watch list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday.
Evans and Kakala, who each signed National Letters of Intent last week, make up two of the 50 high school student-athletes selected to the national list. The 25-member midseason list will be released on Jan. 12, 2017.
Along with in-state product Lindsey Duvall, a five-star recruit and the No. 22-ranked player in the class according to espnW HoopGurlz, the Cardinals put together their second No. 1 class in three years on Nov. 9.
Evans, a 5-foot-6 guard, is a five-star prospect that is ranked seventh overall in the class of 2017, according to espnW HoopGurlz. Currently rated No. 3 at the guard position by espnW, she averaged a remarkable 35.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in her junior season.
Kakala, a 6-foot-3 five-star recruit and the 25th-best player in the class of 2017, was a first-team all-district player last year after averaging 16 points and 8.5 rebounds as a junior.
A USA Today second team all-state selection in 2015 and 2016, earning all-state honorable mention status in 2014, Duvall eclipsed 1,000 career varsity points during her sophomore campaign in 2014, averaging 23.7 points and 7.5 rebounds that year.
