No. 7 Cardinals Fall to No. 5 Clemson in Regular Season Finale

Louisville is No. 3 seed in ACC Championship, will host winner of Virginia-NC State in Nov. 6 quarterfinal
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The seventh-ranked Louisville men's soccer team completed its regular season slate with a 1-0 loss to No. 5 Clemson on Friday night at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
With the result, the Cardinals (11-4-2, 5-2-1 ACC) will be the No. 3 seed in the 2016 ACC Championship and will host a quarterfinal match at Lynn Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m., ET. Louisville's opponent in the quarterfinal contest will be the winner of the No. 6 Virginia-No. 11 NC State first round match on Wednesday in Charlottesville. The complete bracket and schedule for the 12-team championship will be announced following the completion of the regular season on Saturday night.
The lone goal of the night in Friday's top 10 clash came in the 61st minute when Mbaye Malick finished a corner kick chance for the Tigers (11-2-4, 4-1-3 ACC) with a header inside the left post. The opportunity began when Michael Melvin curled a corner kick from the right side into the center of the box, where it was redirected off the head of Patrick Bunk-Anderse to Malick, who scored his second goal of the season.
The Cardinals dropped Friday's match despite finishing with a 10-7 edge in shots, including a 6-0 edge in the first half. Shots on-goal were even at 3-3 and corner kicks were level at 4-4.
The 11 wins for Louisville are the most in the regular season since finishing with 11 during the 2013 season. The Cardinals enter the postseason with a 7-2-1 record at Lynn Stadium in 2016, including 3-2-0 mark against nationally ranked foes. Overall, Louisville played eight of its 17 regular season matches against nationally ranked opponents finishing with a 4-4-0 record in those matches.
Junior forward Mohamed Thiaw closes the regular season tied for the ACC lead in goals with 11, including an NCAA leading seven game-winners. Junior defender Tim Kubel leads the conference with nine assists.
Prior to Friday's match, the Louisville men's soccer program honored Stefan Cleveland, Theo Jamilloux, Daniel Johnson, Romilio Hernandez, Michael DeGraffenreidt and Jerry Ramirez with a Senior Night ceremony on the field at Lynn Stadium.
