Women's Soccer Defeats the Redhawks 2-0 on Monday Night

Cards shutout the Redhawks
LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team defeated Southeast Missouri State 2-0 on Monday evening in Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 2-2-1 on the season while the Redhawks fall to 2-2-1.
The Cardinals took the lead early, Sophomore Shelby Cohen scored an unassisted goal from about 30 yards out in the eighth minute. Cohen's shot sailed in the upper left corner over the Redhawks' keeper, giving the Cards a 1-0 lead.
Louisville continued to dominate possession in the first half. A foul inside the box earned the Cardinals a penalty kick in the 25th minute. Hannah Konermann's took the kick but it sailed over the crossbar.
Louisville held a 7-3 shot advantage at the half while SEMO held a 1-0 corner kick advantage. Cardinal keeper Paige Brown finished the first half with one save while the Redhawks' Kindra Lierz finished with three saves.
Louisville continued to keep possession through much of the second half and was able to extend the lead. Sophomore Alison Price scored her first goal of the season in the 80th minute. Price took a cross from Rachel Avant and slipped it past the keeper for a 2-0 Louisville lead.
The Cardinals finished the match with a 16-5 shot advantage. Louisville finished with five shots on goal while SEMO finished with two. The Cardinals also finished with a 2-1 corner kick advantage. Brown finished with two saves while Lierz finished with three.
The Cardinals will begin a three game road stint, starting with UAB on Friday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
