No. 24 Louisville Faces No. 22 NC State in Key ACC Match

Friday will mark the third nationally ranked opponent this season for Louisville, which is 1-1 in the previous matchups. The Cardinals and Wolfpack are among seven ACC schools ranked in this week's TopDrawerSoccer Top 25. The match will be televised by ESPN3, while live stats will be provided through GoCards.com.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville, enters Friday's match at 4-2-2 overall after earning a 4-0 win over Memphis on Tuesday. Leading the way for head coach Ken Lolla's club through eight matches is freshman Tate Schmitt, who has a team-high five goals and two assists, while senior Ben Strong, juniors Andrew Brody and Daniel Johnson and sophomore Tim Kubel have two goals each. The Cardinals have also received goals from Shane Campbell and Danny Reynolds.
ABOUT THE WOLFPACK
NC State enters Friday's match at 6-2-0 overall after a 4-3 win at home over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday. The Wolfpack are 1-1-0 in ACC action after a 1-0 loss at No. 6 Virginia last week. Yanni Hachem and Zach Knudson lead NC State with three goals each. Last season, the Wolfpack were 7-7-4 overall and finished fifth in the ACC Atlantic with a 1-4-3 league mark.
SERIES SNAPSHOT
Friday will mark just the fourth meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Wolfpack, who hold a narrow 2-1 edge in the series, which dates back to 1997. This will mark NC State's first ever visit to Louisville. The Wolfpack are 2-0-0 against the Cardinals in Raleigh, while Louisville's lone win was a 2-1 overtime triumph at the 2010 Duke Classic in Durham, N.C.
LOUISVILLE NOTES AND TRENDS...
• The Cardinals are 4-2-1 at home this season and 11-5-4 overall at Lynn Stadium since its opening prior to the 2014 season.
• Having already split a pair of matchups against ranked foes (win over No. 15 Kentucky, loss to No. 8 Stanford), the Cardinals are also slated to play at No. 2 UNC, at No. 3 Virginia, No. 8 Wake Forest, at No. 9 Clemson and No. 22 NC State this season.
• Four freshmen -- Ricardo Oliveros, Danny Reynolds, Tate Schmitt and Johnathon Wright -- have started matches this season for Louisville.
• Sophomore Tim Kubel leads the Cardinals with nine career goals, while junior Andrew Brody is next with eight. Kubel has scored each of his two goals this season in the last three matches while adding assists in back-to-back outings.
• Andrew Brody also leads the Cardinals with 50 career starts -- highlighted by 22 last season and 20 as a freshman in 2013.
• Louisville team captains for 2015 are senior Ben Strong, junior Romilio Hernandez and Tim Kubel.
LOUISVILLE TO HOST HISPANIC HERITAGE NIGHT ON SEPT. 25
The University of Louisville men's soccer program will host Hispanic Heritage Night at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m., ET as the Cardinals face ACC foe NC State.
In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the Cardinals will recognize and celebrate the Latino culture in America and the inspiring individuals of the past who worked for the advancement of the Hispanic community. The Latino community is a growing and dignified group in the United States and has made progress in all areas including business, politics, education, athletics, music, and entertainment, and has successfully fused itself within the culture of America.
Louisville's 2015 roster features six players with Hispanic heritage – senior Jerry Ramirez, junior Romilio Hernandez and freshmen Oliver Calvo, Eric Izaguirre, Ricardo Oliveros and Max Stiegwardt. Friday's festivities will be a celebration of tradition, heritage, and soccer as the Cardinals continue their 2015 slate.
During Friday's match, the Louisville men's soccer program will honor and recognize the University of Louisville Hispanic Latino Faculty and Staff Association, which advises the President and the University of Louisville community on the nature of issues and needs confronting the Hispanic/Latino Faculty, Staff, and Students in the University. The HLFSA also provides assistance in evaluating University programs as they pertain to the Hispanic/Latino community, provides input to University and City of Louisville officials and assists the Hispanic/Latino community to make the University system more accessible. JOHNSON NAMED ACC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK ON SEPT. 15
Louisville junior midfielder Daniel Johnson was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15 marking the first ACC weekly honor for the Cardinals this season. Johnson, who shared the honor with Duke's Jeremy Ebobisse, connected for his first two goals as a Cardinal scoring once in the Sept. 8 win over No. 15 Kentucky and again in the 1-1 draw at Syracuse on Sept. 11. A native of Duluth, Georgia, Johnson scored in the 28th minute of Louisville's 2-0 home triumph over the rival Wildcats. Three nights later, the Maryland transfer delivered his second tally of the week connecting on the game-tying goal at Syracuse inside the final 65 seconds of the first half of the Cardinals' ACC opener.
