Freshman Olivia Cason is tied for the best two-round score of all freshmen with a 5-under-par 139.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman Olivia Cason is showing that her first-round score at the Mason Rudolph Championship wasn't a fluke, following the performance with another score that has her sitting in the top five on the individual leaderboard.
Cason fired a 2-under-par 70 on Saturday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course, giving the Owensboro, Ky., native a 5-under-par 139 through two rounds. She is tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard and has the second-best total of any freshman in the 90-player field.
Coupled with Friday's performance, Cason has tapped in eight birdies and leads the pack with a 2.60 average on par-3 holes.
“Olivia had another great round, and she continues to play very well,” head coach Courtney Trimble said. “Laura and Katie had solid rounds for the team.
“Certainly, we left a few out there today, but we are pleased with the progress we are making. We're really looking forward to getting out early tomorrow and posting a good round to move up the leaderboard.”
Senior Laura Restrepo compiled her best round of the season, helping the University of Louisville women's golf team maintain its top-10 position. The senior tallied a 2-under-par 70 behind four birdies. Restrepo's two-round score of 1-under-par 143 puts her in a tie for 19th.
Collectively, the Cardinals totaled a 4-over-par 292 and fell one spot to seventh. Louisville improved its par-5 score in the second round to a 4.92 average and remains atop the field with 126 pars.
Katie Mitchell shook Friday's performance to shoot an even-par 72, aided by a birdie on No. 11. Lexie Long rounded out the Cardinals' scorers and has a two-round score of 6-over-par 150.
The third and final round of competition on Sunday begins with the Cardinals teeing off at 8:35 a.m. ET. Louisville will be paired with Vanderbilt and Houston.
