Tennis Falls to No. 69-ranked Florida State

The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 69-ranked Florida State in an ACC match Friday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"Our margin for error is small when playing teams of this level," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "The thing that must improve is our self-talk which is much too negative as soon as we get behind in our matches. Once we are able to correct that it will give us a better opportunity to win some matches."

FSU is now 12-9 and the Cardinals drop to 11-14.

The Cardinals dropped the doubles point when Manuela Velasquez and Elle Stokes fell 8-1 at No. 1. The point was clinched when Cardinals Cassie Pough and Jessie Lynn Paul fell 8-2 at No. 3. The No. 2 match was unfinished and was tied at five when play was discontinued.

The Cardinals got their only point from their lone senior as Manuela Velasquez rolled 6-3, 6-2 over No. 89-ranked Kerrie Cartwright at the No. 2 spot.

"I do want to congratulate Manuela for another win over a nationally ranked player today. She has been playing lights out for us and is such a bright spot for our team," said Beckham.

UofL returns to action on Sunday at 11 a.m. when they face No. 17-ranked Miami as ACC action continues.
