The University of Louisville women's tennis team opened its double header with a 5-2 win over Xavier Sunday morning in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Cards swept doubles before taking four of the six singles matches for their sixth win of the dual match season. They are currently 6-1 in dual matches.

"It was good for us to go through a tough match like this before next weekend's matches," said head coach Mark Beckham. "Xavier challenged us on every court, and for us to respond the way we did shows good potential with this team. A lot of teams would have folded, but we gutted it out today. This is definitely good experience for us going into the ACC opener."

The No. 1 doubles team of Elle Stoles and Ariana Rodriguez defeated Sydney Liggins and Amina Ismail 6-2 to earn the first win of the day for the Cardinals. The No. 2 duo of Olivia Boesing and Chloe Willetts won 6-4 over Alex Brinker and Cristina Di Lorenzo, clinching the doubles point.

In singles, Manuela Velazquez cruised past Amina Ismail 6-1, 6-2 in No. 3 singles to earn the first singles point for the Cards. Xavier's Sydney Liggins put the Musketeers on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 No. 1 singles win over Elle Stokes. Olivia Boesing added to the Cards' as the No. 5 singles player with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Daniella Patton. Jessie Lynn Paul clinched the match with a back-and-forth 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win over Lauren Ghidotti in No. 4 singles. The Musketeers added their final point of the day when Cristina Di Lorenzo won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over Chloe Willletts in No. 6 singles. Ariana Rodriguez rounded out the scoring for the Cards, defeating Alex Brinker 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 singles.

Louisville is back in action today at 3 p.m. when the Cards face Northern Kentucky.
