Sophomores Sidney Melton and Alison Szydlowski recap day one of the OKC Challenge
The 2015 Oklahoma City Challenge is underway with the first day in the books. The Red Squad has taken an early lead by beating the Black Squad 250-100 on Thursday. Sophomores Sidney Melton (Red Squad) and Alison Szydlowski (Black Squad) are their respective teams' official bloggers. Below are their recaps of Thursday's action.

After Day One of competition the red squad is up 250 to 100 points. The day's challenge was to complete a total of six tasks that were spread out over the course of Cherokee Park. The Red Team was able to pull out the win with good strategies and a thoughtful way to navigate through the park.Â
The final challenge was at Dog Hill. The Red Team could see the end in sight and sprinted to the daunting hill. At the bottom of the hill were weighted sleds attached to ropes. The goal was to use the rope to pull the sled to the top of the hill and then back down again. After losing the plate in the adjacent woods for several minutes the red team was able to complete this challenge with the black team still nowhere in sight. The Red Team clinched the victory by winning the protein shake relay-race bonus challenge.
Â
The Red Team came out strong today. Tomorrow is a new day and we will see what each team is really made of.

For the first day of the Oklahoma City Challenge was one for the books. Maryssa Becker, the Black Team captain, received instructions from Molly Binetti about the challenge which was held at Cherokee Park. Our first challenge consisted of six stations with a coach and a set of instructions that were scattered throughout the park. Each station could be completed in any order, but the only exception was to finish on the sixth station. The black team's strategy was to head to farthest station to get it out of the way, which was a mental challenge. Then, we headed to the first, second, and third challenge. These stations involved completing 50 pull ups, hill sprints with seven teammates, and 300 jumps with a jump rope. The fifth station was up on the golf course where we had to build a human pyramid, which then led to the last station. The sixth station was located on a big hill where as a team we had to pull a rope attached to a sled with a 25 kilogram plate.
Â
Once our entire team was at the top, the equipment had to be taken back to the bottom of the hill where then the remaining members had to run back up the hill. For the bonus, challenge all team members had to chug a Gatorade protein shake in which all members had to finish for a time.
Â
The first day of OKC Challenge forced us to work together as a team and strategize on the spot. We did not win either challenge, but we are ready for the next day and to come out and conquer!
