- In Louisville's first game under the new format of four 10-minute periods, Louisville forced California to 10 turnovers in the first stanza.
- Louisville scored 25 points in the fourth period, the most points in a quarter under the new rule.
- Louisville forced 27 turnovers, which is the most since it forced 30 in an 86-54 victory over BYU in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
- The Cardinals held California without a fastbreak point in their season opener after holding opponents scoreless on the fastbreak seven times last season.
- Louisville went 3-for-4 at the free-throw line against California, the fewest since they went to the charity stripe three times (3-for-3) against Connecticut on March 10, 2014.
