Louisville Travels to Virginia for Friday Afternoon Match

Kickoff at 1 p.m., ET in Charlottesville; Time altered due to expected inclement weather
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's soccer team challenges its fourth nationally ranked opponent of the season on Friday at 1 p.m., ET with a road match at No. 10 Virginia.
The match will kick off six hours earlier than previously scheduled due to expected inclement weather in Charlottesville. Live audio of the match will be available to subscribers of CardsTV, while live stats will be provided through GoCards.com.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville, enters Friday's match at 4-3-3 overall following a disappointing 1-0 road loss at Big Ten foe Ohio State on Tuesday. Leading the way for head coach Ken Lolla's club through 10 matches is freshman Tate Schmitt, who has an ACC-leading six goals to go along with two assists, while senior Ben Strong, juniors Andrew Brody and Daniel Johnson and sophomore Tim Kubel have two goals each. The Cardinals have also received goals from Shane Campbell and Danny Reynolds this season.
ABOUT THE CAVALIERS
Virginia enters the weekend at 5-1-2 overall after suffering its first loss of the season last Friday at Notre Dame. Jake Rozhansky leads UVA with three goals this season. Last season, the Cavaliers won their seventh NCAA championship defeating UCLA in penalty kicks in the title match. Overall, Virginia was 14-6-3 overall and finished fourth in the ACC Coastal Division with a 3-3-2 record.
SERIES SNAPSHOT
Friday will mark just the second meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Cavaliers on the soccer pitch with Louisville holding a 1-0 edge. In their first ever visit to Charlottesville in the 2013 season-opener, the No. 20 Cardinals were lifted to a 2-1 win against No. 10 Virginia behind Jimmy Ockford's second half goal.
LOUISVILLE NOTES AND TRENDS...
• Louisville is playing its second road match of the week and the third of the season with the visit to UVA.
• The Cardinals are 4-2-2 at home this season and 11-5-5 overall at Lynn Stadium since its opening prior to the 2014 season.
• Louisville is 0-1-1 on the road in 2015.
• Having earned a 1-1-1 record against ranked foes (win over No. 15 Kentucky, loss to No. 8 Stanford, draw against No. 22 NC State) thus far in 2015, the Cardinals are also slated to play at No. 2 UNC, at No. 3 Virginia, No. 8 Wake Forest and at No. 9 Clemson this season.
• Sophomore Tim Kubel leads the Cardinals with nine career goals, while junior Andrew Brody is next with eight. Kubel has scored each of his two goals this season in the last four matches while adding assists in three of the last four outings.
• Andrew Brody also leads the Cardinals with 52 career starts -- highlighted by 22 last season and 20 as a freshman in 2013.
• Louisville team captains for 2015 are senior Ben Strong, junior Romilio Hernandez and Tim Kubel.
SCHMITT LEADS ACC IN GOALS, POINTS
After more than five weeks of action, Louisville freshman Tate Schmitt has emerged as one of the standout attackers in the Atlantic Coast Conference leading the prestigious league goals and points. With six goals in the first 10 matches, Schmitt is tied for the top spot in the conference with Clemson's T.J. Casner, Wake Forest's Michael Gamble and Notre Dame's Jon Gallagher, while his 14 points are equaled only by Gallagher.
LOUISVILLE HOSTS HISPANIC HERITAGE NIGHT ON SEPT. 25
The University of Louisville men's soccer program hosted Hispanic Heritage Night at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium on Sept. 25 as the Cardinals played to a 1-1 draw against ACC foe NC State.
In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the Cardinals recognized and celebrated the Latino culture in America and the inspiring individuals of the past who worked for the advancement of the Hispanic community. The Latino community is a growing and dignified group in the United States and has made progress in all areas including business, politics, education, athletics, music, and entertainment, and has successfully fused itself within the culture of America.
Louisville's 2015 roster features six players with Hispanic heritage – senior Jerry Ramirez, junior Romilio Hernandez and freshmen Oliver Calvo, Eric Izaguirre, Ricardo Oliveros and Max Stiegwardt. The festivities were a celebration of tradition, heritage and soccer as the Cardinals continue their 2015 slate.
During the match, the Louisville men's soccer program honored and recognized the University of Louisville Hispanic Latino Faculty and Staff Association, which advises the President and the University of Louisville community on the nature of issues and needs confronting the Hispanic/Latino Faculty, Staff, and Students in the University. The HLFSA also provides assistance in evaluating University programs as they pertain to the Hispanic/Latino community, provides input to University and City of Louisville officials and assists the Hispanic/Latino community to make the University system more accessible. JOHNSON NAMED ACC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK ON SEPT. 15
Louisville junior midfielder Daniel Johnson was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15 marking the first ACC weekly honor for the Cardinals this season. Johnson, who shared the honor with Duke's Jeremy Ebobisse, connected for his first two goals as a Cardinal scoring once in the Sept. 8 win over No. 15 Kentucky and again in the 1-1 draw at Syracuse on Sept. 11. A native of Duluth, Georgia, Johnson scored in the 28th minute of Louisville's 2-0 home triumph over the rival Wildcats. Three nights later, the Maryland transfer delivered his second tally of the week connecting on the game-tying goal at Syracuse inside the final 65 seconds of the first half of the Cardinals' ACC opener.
