
Volleyball's Katie George Crowned Miss Kentucky

University of Louisville volleyball setter Katie George was crowned the Miss Kentucky USA 2015 Sunday night at the Ursuline Arts Center in Louisville.
Contestants from counties all over Kentucky counties competed in the 2015 Miss Kentucky USA with the Miss Kentucky Teen pageant being held in conjunction. Bowling Green's Caroline Ford was crowned the Miss Kentucky Teen USA.
George, who is the captain of University of Louisville Volleyball team member, was competing in her first pageant. An AVCA All-Region selection, Katie was named to the First Team All ACC, and started in every match of her junior year. She led the team with 1163 assists (10.20/set) and aces with 35. She was second on the team with 301 digs (2.64/set) and registered 14 double-doubles. She had a season high seven kills vs. Boston College and Minnesota, 57 assists at Minnesota, five aces at Virginia and Clemson and 16 digs vs. UNC and Cincinnati. She was named to MVP and All-Tournament at the Morehead Tournament. She was also named to the All-Active Ankle Challenge team. Katie was ranked No. 76 in the nation in total assists.
"I can't tell you what just happened to me. I've never been in a pageant before and I've never worn a crown, but this is a pretty amazing feeling," George told the Courier-Journal newspaper last night. "So I am excited to represent the Commonwealth of Kentucky."
The preliminary competition on Saturday featured a private interview with the judges before Sunday's swimsuit competition and evening-gown division, as well as an on-stage question in front of a live audience.
