Cardinals Graduate More than 100 Student-Athletes

Wearing their distinctive white satin stoles with red embroidery labeling them as student-athletes, more than 100 Cardinals have earned their degrees and participated in the University of Louisville May 2014 commencement ceremonies last weekend at the KFC Yum! Center.
"Getting my diploma in this spring commencement was a day I will forever remember, having my parents in the arena witnessing my graduation was the cherry on the top of the cake for my journey here at UofL. I am very proud of now being an alumni of one of the best universities in the nation," said Cardinal swimmer and NCAA Champion Carlos Almeida.
The Cardinals, as a program, continue to be successful in the classroom as nine University of Louisville athletic teams posted a perfect score in the most recent single-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) data that was released by the NCAA on Wednesday.The nine UofL sports -- five women's and four men's -- with a perfect 1000 APR score for the most recent 2012-13 figures consist of men's basketball, football, men's golf, women's golf, women's lacrosse, softball, women's soccer, men's tennis, and volleyball. UofL's men's basketball and women's golf teams are among the top 10 percent in their respective sports in the latest multi-year APR, which measures academic eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes. "I am very proud of the continued graduation success rate we are experiencing here at the University of Louisville. Our students reconfirm the fact that success can be achieved in the class room and in their sport," said Marvin Mitchell, senior associate athletic director for Student Services and Diversity.
