No.67-ranked Louisville women's tennis won the doubles points and all but one singles matches in its 6-1 victory against Southern Illinois Saturday afternoon in the Bass Rudd Tennis Center.

"I felt like it was a good win," said Head Coach Mark Beckham. "I'm putting a little more pressure [on the team]. There's more expectation, so I'm not as easy as far as letting certain things go. This particular team (Southern Illinois) is very good. We got our win but there are some things we need to make sure we're aware of. I want us to win a certain way, and I need to make sure [our team] understands that. It's more than just winning the match; it's about making sure we're doing all the right things and not just relying on our talent and playing a certain way. We were close to that, but outside of that, I feel like we played pretty well."

Louisville improves to 10-3, while Southern Illinois moves to 11-6.

To start the match off, No. 15-ranked doubles partners Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine outpaced Natasha Tomishima and Meagan Monaghan at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 win. Manuela Velasquez and Elle Stokes finished second at No.2 doubles with an 8-2 win against Anita Lee and Korey Love to secure the doubles point for the Cardinals.

Julia Fellerhoff clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Natasha Tomishima at No. 1 singles. Another notable win for the Cardinals came at No. 2 where Manuela Velasquez moved up into Rebecca Shine's slot and outlasted Anita Lee in a three-setter 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.
