No. 3/4 Louisville Hosts Temple on Wednesday Night

The No. 3/4 Louisville women's basketball will host Temple in a second matchup of the season on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3. It can also be heard live on the Cards Radio with Matt Andrews and Adrienne Johnson, carried locally on WKRD 790 AM.
Asia Taylor led Louisville for the second-straight game with 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in its 81-64 loss to Connecticut on Sunday. The Cards put forth a great effort against the top-ranked Huskies, staying within 10-12 points for most of the game. Sara Hammond finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Shoni Schimmel and Antonita Slaughter added nine points each.
The Cardinals have an overall record of 23-2 and a conference record of 11-1. Schimmel leads the team in scoring with 17.6 points per game. Hammond ranks second in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 11.6 points and 6.4 boards per game, respectively. Taylor ranks third on the team in scoring with 10.8 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game. Rounding out the top scorers is Bria Smith, who averages 9.3 points per game.
Temple enters Wednesday's game with an overall record of 12-11 and a conference record of 6-6. For the second consecutive game, junior guard Rateska Brown came off the bench to lead the Owls with a season-high 17 points in Temple's 64-51 win over Memphis on Sunday. She also scored a season-high five, three-pointers. Freshman guard Feyonda Fitzgerald finished with 11 points and six assists. Senior forward Natasha Thames added 10 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Shi-Heria Shipp grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Temple is led in scoring by Fitzgerald, who averages 12.8 points per game. Thames ranks second in scoring with 11.2 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.0 boards per game. Shipp and Tyonna Williams round out the top scorers with 9.6 and 9.5 points per game, respectively. Shipp also ranks second in rebounding with an average of 6.9 boards per game.
Louisville won the first game against Temple 77-68 on New Years' Day 2014. The Cardinals hold a 1-0 lead in the series.
