December 30, 2014
KFC Yum! Center - Louisville, Ky.
TEAM NOTES
- Tuesday's announced attendance was 18,248.
- Louisville improved to 12-1 to start the season with the win, the fifth time achieving such a record since 1999-2000. The Cardinals previously went at least 12-1 to start the following seasons: 2002-03, 2003-04, 2011-12, and 2012-13.
- Louisville leads the all-time series 2-0 after beating Long Beach State on Tuesday. The programs first met in 2011, when the Cardinals posted a 79-66 victory on Nov. 28.
- The Cardinals improved to 32-6 in the month of December over the last four years, including a 20-2 mark the last three seasons.
- The Cardinals have limited 9-of-13 opponents this season to fewer than 60 points, including four of the last five.
- Louisville has improved its shooting from the free-throw line over the last four games, connecting on 86-of-110 for a 78.2 percent clip.
- The Cardinals connected on six 3-pointers in the first half, a feat Louisville has accomplished twice this season prior to Tuesday's game (6 vs. Ohio State on Dec. 21; vs. Cal State Northridge on Dec. 23).
- Louisville totaled 10 steals in the victory, the 11th time the Cardinals have achieve double-digit steals this season.
- The Cardinals connected on 51.2 percent (21-of-41) of their shots, their third time shooting above 50 percent in a game this year.
- The Cardinals held Long Beach State to just 19 first-half points, the 49ers' lowest total in the opening half this season. It's the fourth time this season Louisville has held an opponent to 20 points or less in the first half.
- The Cardinals held the 49ers to just seven offensive rebounds, the lowest by an opponent this year.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Anas Mahmoud and Shaqquan Aaron each earned their first career starts on Dec. 30. It's the first time Louisville featured at least two true freshmen in its starting lineup since the 2008-09 season, when Jared Swopshire and Samardo Samuels received the nod on Dec. 27, 2008, in an 82-62 victory over UAB in Freedom Hall.
-
- Earlier that season, Kyle Kuric and Samuels earned the start versus Indiana State in an 83-43 win on Dec. 6 in Freedom Hall.
- Mahmoud posted four points, three rebounds, and two blocked shots. The freshman has tallied at least one block in six games this year, including four with at least two blocks.
- Terry Rozier finished with 23 points, leading the Cardinals in scoring for the fifth time this season.
-
- It marked the 12th time in 13 games that he has reached double-figure points and third time in which he has achieved at least 20 points.
- Rozier finished with a career-best six steals, the most by a Louisville player since Chris Jones recorded six against Rutgers in the AAC Tournament on March 3.
- Montrezl Harrell had 16 points in the victory. He has scored in double figures in 23 of his last 24 games, including 14 games with 15 or more points.
-
- Harrell has 937 career points, leaving him 63 shy of becoming the Cardinals' 66th 1,000-point scorer.
- He connected on seven field goals, the fourth time this year he has hit that many shots.
- Wayne Blackshear, who entered the game with 791 points, surpassed 800 for his career (currently has 803) after totaling 12 against Long Beach State.
