LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Twenty-five children and their families are going to enjoy Christmas even more this year thanks to the University of Louisville athletic department's S.C.O.R.E. program.
S.C.O.R.E., which stands for Student-Athletes of Color Combining Opportunity and Responsibility for Excellence, teamed up with the 2014 Salvation Army Angel Tree program to provide underprivileged children with holiday gifts.
From Nov. 21 to Dec. 9, members of S.C.O.R.E. requested contributions from fellow student-athletes in addition to seeking donations and adoptions of individual angels from UofL administrators, coaches, and other staff members. After collecting funds, they went shopping to buy gifts for their respective angels. They also collected gifts that departmental staff members purchased for angels to be given to the Salvation Army.
Taylor Bradley, president of S.C.O.R.E says, "This is always a special event, because this program helps parents that are economically disadvantaged, provide gifts for their children during the holiday season. This community supports University of Louisville Athletics so much that anytime we have a chance to give back, we jump at the opportunity."
Assistant Director of Academic Services Kamari Wooten, the group's advisor, estimates that S.C.O.R.E.'s efforts has provided more than $12,000 in gifts to the Angel Tree Drive over the last four years.
The University of Louisville Athletic Department is proud of our student's outreach efforts and looks forward to S.C.O.R.E.'s continued working relationship with The Salvation Army Angel Tree Drive in the future (http://www.gocards.com/sports/acad-services/spec-rel/lou-score.html).
