LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The seventh-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team celebrated senior day with a 3-0 win over visiting UC Davis Friday evening. The win marks the third straight shutout for the Cardinals (13-4) who finish the season with an 8-1 record at home. UC Davis falls to 4-11 on the season.
"We're very happy to come away with a win on senior day in our last game of the season at Trager Stadium," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "UC Davis was a very tough opponent. They marked us tight and were physical and we struggled a little bit with that. We're really happy at the end of the day with the win."
The Cards got on the scoreboard at the 16:26 mark when sophomore Lotta Kahlert connected on a penalty corner assist from junior Elisa Garcia. Five minutes later, Louisville capitalized on another corner when senior Rachel McCarthy sent a shot into the left side of the cage with assists from fellow seniors Mallory Mason and Paige Monsen.
UofL took the 2-0 lead into halftime after outshooting the Aggies 13-1 and holding an 8-0 advantage in corners.
In the second half, junior Victoria Stratton capped the scoring with her first goal of the season. Garcia sent a pass from the left side to Stratton who was open at the top of the circle for the 3-0 final.
