"Today was a solid performance by our team against a very good Indiana team," said UofL head coach Justine Sowry. "We had numerous contributions all over the field that included several other players stepping up and it also enabled our team to control the flow of the game. We were focused on the game plan and what we needed to do. We are very happy with our weekend of hockey.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the third minute of the game when senior Alyssa Voelmle connected on a penalty corner feed from junior Elisa Garcia to register her team-best 10th goal of the season.
Louisville used another penalty corner to add to the lead at the 25:53 mark. A trio of seniors combined for the score as Mallory Mason got the corner started and Paige Monsen provided the stop and Rachel McCarthy notched her second goal of the season to make it a 2-0 game.
The Cards took the 2-0 lead into halftime after outshooting the Hoosiers 9-5 and holding a 5-3 edge in corners.
The Hoosiers attacked early in the second half, drawing three corners in the first seven minutes, but UofL goalkeeper junior Sydney King and the Cards' defense stood strong held a 5-3 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corners in the half.
Louisville tacked on another goal with less than seven minutes remaining in the game when sophomore Shannon Sloss registered her sixth goal of the season for the 3-0 final.
