The No. 58-ranked University of Louisville women's tennis team beat Cincinnati 7-0 Saturday evening at the Western Tennis and Fitness Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"We played good singles today. The doubles were solid but we turned it up in singles," said Mark Beckham, U of L head coach. "This is our first match as a nationally ranked team and I was very curious to see how they handled playing with that designation. I thought they played handled it pretty well. We have some big matches coming up this week during spring break and hopefully we can keep this momentum going."

Louisville grabbed the first point of the match, topping Cincinnati on all three doubles courts to open play. In the top spot, UC `s Jasmine Lee and Caitlin O'Gara fell to Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine 8-2 while the junior duo of Ashleigh Witte and Sierra Sullivan lost to Mandy Brown and Stefanie Villajuan 8-3 on court No. 2. In the third spot, sophomore Kristina Georgieva and freshman Kelly Poggensee-Wei put up a stiff competition, coming from 7-4 down to climb to within one point at 7-6, but it was not enough. The pair lost to Cardinals Manuela Velasquez and Rebecca Bodine 8-6.

In singles action, Fellerhoff beat Lee 6-4, 6-4 at the top spot and O'Gara lost 6-3, 6-0 to Shine on court No. 2. Manuela Velasquez beat Witte 6-3, 6-1 as the third seed and Poggensee-Wei fell to Brown 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth position. On court No. 5, Stefanie Villajuan beat Georgieva 6-4, 6-1. while Becky Bodine made quick work of Hannah Wille with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
