Kibet Leads Track and Field at Shamrock Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Amashi Kendall set a meet record in the shot put, and the University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up their final day of competition on Saturday at the Shamrock Invitational in Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
A senior, Kendall opened her outdoor season with a first-place showing in the shot put. She held the top position on her second attempt, recording a mark of 15.67m/51-5, and then improved that mark. Her final throw went 16.14m/52-11.50, two feet better than the last year's meet record. Liberty Slinden finished third in the event.
The throws group also received strong performances in the men's and women's discus as well as the men's shot put competition.
Rachel Serafin led a 4-5-7 finish in the discus with a toss of 43.88m/143-11. Hannah Baker placed fifth, and Slinden took seventh.
On the men's side, Steve Wade registered sixth-place finishes in the discus and the shot put. Brad Vivace placed seventh in the shot put, and Isaac Bowling took eighth and ninth in the discus and shot put, respectively.
Ernest Kibet and Michelle Molodynia had the Cardinals' only track victories of the day. Kibet won the 1,500m race after clocking a time of 3:56.64. Luke Lovelace (fourth), Mattias Wolter (sixth), and Tyler Byrne (eighth) placed in the top 10 in the event. Molodynia finished first in a time of 10:06.58, as Louisville's only runner in the 3,000m. Distance runner Japhet Kipkoech also turned in a solid performance in his outdoor debut, placing third in the 3,000m.
Calvin Arsenault led the sprints group with an eighth-place finish in the men's 110m hurdle final. He also participated in the 400m hurdles, where he took 14th. In the 400m events, Margret Harris earned a 10th-place finish, and Marcus Motill had the top men's performance with a 12th-place showing. Also of note in the middle distance events, Kelsey Cramsey clocked a time of 2:15.58 to finish fifth in the 800m.
Louisville's men and women combined for three top-five finishes in the jumps events. Brittany Owens led the women in the long jump with a runner-up showing, leaping to a mark of 5.71m/18-9, while Jeron Brown finished fourth in the men's competition on a mark of 7.05m/23-1.75. Jacob Sebastian tied for fourth in the pole vault.
