
Volleyball Set to Host Houston and SMU This Weekend

Atop the AAC with a sterling 11-0 mark, the road-weary Cardinals return to the KFC Yum! Center after a seven-match road stretch. The Cards face two conference foes in the University of Houston Cougars and the Southern Methodist University Mustangs this weekend at the KFC YUM! Center.
The Cougars are 15-11 overall and 7-4 in Conference play. Blocking led the University of Houston to a 2-0 weekend with a three-set sweep over the University of Connecticut Friday night and a four-set win over Rutgers Sunday afternoon. Middle blocker Courtney Smith recorded a season high seven block assists. Fellow middle Kaiti Waters followed with five, and three other Cougars had three or more block assists. Houston Volleyball totaled a season high of 12.0 team blocks in a three-set match against UConn.
SMU suffered its last loss on October 18 in a 3-2 decision against Conference opponent University of South Florida. Since then, the Mustangs are on a four-game winning streak. SMU is 16-8 overall and is second in the AAC behind the Cards with an 8-3 record. The Mustangs will play five of their last seven matches on the road, starting Friday at Cincinnati and Sunday at Louisville. SMU enters the weekend tied for second in the American Athletic Conference with an 8-3 mark, 16-8 overall, Caroline Young earned her third American Athletic Conference Player of the Week award after leading the Mustangs to a season sweep of Rutgers and Connecticut at home. The junior is third in the league with 3.44 kills per set and has 303 for the season. In conference matches, SMU is the third-highest rated offense behind Louisville, hitting .230 with 12.67 kills per set.
The University of Louisville Women's Volleyball team picked up two more road wins last weekend, traveling to Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. The Cards are now riding a six-game winning streak and remain unbeaten at 11-0 in American Athletic Conference play and are 16-7 overall.
