Shoni Schimmel Named to the Wade Watch List

LOUISVILLE, KY. -- Senior guard Shoni Schimmel was one of 25 players named to the 2013-14 preseason `Wade Watch' list of candidates for the prestigious award, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced today.
Schimmel was been a key player in the Cardinals' success last season. Louisville finished as the 2013 NCAA Runner-Up with a 29-9 overall record. The Cardinal finished the 2013 season ranked third in the Coaches Poll.
Schimmel was named the Most Outstanding Player for the Oklahoma City Regional. She also earned WBCA All-Region honors and first team All-BIG EAST honors. She leads the Cardinals in scoring and assists with 14.2 points and 3.6 assists per game. She also ranks second on the team in free throw percentage, shooting 81.1 percent. Schimmel earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors after scoring a career-high 38 points against South Florida. She finished league play averaging 15.8 points and 3.5 assists per game.
The preseason list is composed of top NCAA Division I women's basketball players who best embody Wade's spirit from 18 different institutions and seven conferences. A committee of coaches, administrators and media from across the United States compiled the list using the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team, and overall playing ability.
The Atlantic Coast Conference placed six players on the 2013-14 preseason list, followed by the American Athletic Conference with five, the Southeastern Conference with four, the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences with three each, and the Big 12 Conference and Conference USA with two players each.
