LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams will split squads this weekend, with a majority of the team heading to the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky., and the distance group traveling to the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind.
Both meets begin on Friday, Jan. 25, and resume on Saturday, Jan. 26. The jumps, sprints and throws group will compete at the event in Lexington, held in Nutter Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Kentucky. The group participating in the IU Relays will be competing in the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
In Lexington, the Cardinals' first day of competition features only field events. The group begins at 2:30 p.m. with the women's weight throw, where Amashi Kendall ranks 12th nationally in the event. The rest of the day is solely jumping events. Freshman Chrisjaan Smith is scheduled to compete in the men's high jump at 4:30 p.m. Currently, he is tied for third in the conference in the event with a mark of 2.08m/6-9.75. Classmate Jeron Brown will be making his collegiate debut in the long jump at 6:20 p.m.
At the Indiana Relays, Louisville is set to begin at 4:20 p.m. with the women's mile. The men's mile is set to start 20 minutes later, and the women's group concludes the day with the 3,000m at 5 p.m. and the 600m finals at 6:25 p.m.
On Saturday, Louisville gets underway first at the Rod McCravy Memorial, with the women's shot put at 11 a.m. The Cardinals have four throwers competing in the event, including Khadija Abdullah, who ranks No. 5 nationally in the discipline.
Following the women's triple jump, Louisville opens up on the track in Lexington, with the 60m hurdles semifinals. Calvin Arsenault continued to inch closer to the 20-year-old school record in the event, clocking a personal-best time of 8.04, one hundredth of a second shy of the school best.
On the women's side, Louisville will send out sprinters for the 60m and 400m events. Following the men's shot put, the Cardinals finish the meet with the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
For the final day of the Indiana Relays, Louisville's runners will participate in a total of four events. Five different runners, including three Kenyan freshmen, are scheduled to run the 5,000m. After the women's 400m and 800m events, a trio of men's runners - Luke Lovelace, Evan Hibbs and Andrew Stewart - conclude the day in the 800m at 2:20 p.m.
