- Louisville improves to 12-6 in the series against Providence. The Cardinals have won 11 of the last 13 meetings with the Friars.
- The Cardinals improve to 13-1 on the season, which ranks as the third best start under head coach Rick Pitino. This season ranks behind the 18-1 start in the 2002-03 season and the 16-1 start in the 2003-04 season.
- The Cardinals' 22 assists ranks as the second highest output this season. It is just the third time this season that the Cards have dished out 20 or more assists. Louisville dished out 23 assists against Florida International and 22 against Miami (Ohio).
- Louisville finished the game shooting 52.6 percent from the field for the second-best percentage this season. The Cardinals have shot 50 percent or better in four games this season for a 4-0 record.
- Louisville finished the game with 11 steals. The Cards have grabbed 10 or more steals in 11 of their 14 games this season.
- Louisville has won four of its last five games starting the New Year. The Cardinals have an 8-4 mark under head coach Rick Pitino in their first game of the New Year each season. Last season the Cardinals defeated St. John's 73-58 in New York on Jan. 3, 2012.
- The Cardinals have now scored 371 of their 1,097 points off turnovers (34 percent). The Cardinals have forced an average of 20.6 turnovers a game for a turnover margin of +8.4.
- With the 80-62 win over Providence, the Cardinals have scored 80 or more points in nine games this season. The Cardinals are 9-0 this season when scoring 80 or more points.
- The Cardinals came for a 10-point deficit (13-3) at the 16:21 mark to take a 37-31 lead at the half. It is the third time this season the Cardinals have had to rally from a 10-point deficit. This season the Cardinals trailed 16 at Memphis on Dec. 15 before winning 87-78 and they recovered from a 13-point deficit against Illinois State on Dec. 1 for a 69-66 victory. The Cardinals have rallied from nine or more points on 15 occasions over the last three seasons.
- Sophomore guard Kevin Ware made his first career start against the Friars.
- Junior Gorgui Dieng recorded his 14th career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Providence.
- Sophomore Luke Hancock pulled down a career-high eight rebounds against Providence. His previous career-high was six against Samford and UMKC. Hancock's also scored 11 points for his fourth game in double figures.
- Senior Peyton Siva finished the game with eight assists, marking the eighth game this season he has dished out six or more assists.
- Siva is just 20 points shy from reaching 1,000 for his career.
- Russ Smith scored 23 points in the win, giving him double figures for the 14th-consecutive game. It was his seventh game of the season with 20 or more points. Smith also has led the Cardinals in scoring in 12 of U of L's 14 games.
- Chane Behanan set a new career high with four steals against Providence. He has now recorded three steals five times in his career.
