LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Amashi Kendall recorded a win in the weight throw to lead the University of Louisville track and field teams on Saturday in Nutter Fieldhouse on the final day of the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
Kendall, who has two wins on the season in the weight throw, registered a season-best mark of 20.21m/66-3.75. The throw currently ranks as the 12th-best mark in the country and gives the Cardinals two student-athletes ( Patrice Gates) inside the top 40 in the event. Gates finished third in the weight throw on Saturday, and newcomer Liberty Slinden took 10th.
On the men's side, Steve Wade (shot put) and Calvin Arsenault (60m hurdles) earned runner-up finishes in their respective events.
Arsenault advanced to the 60m hurdles finals after placing second in the semifinals on Friday. The Kitchener, Ontario, posted a collegiate-best mark of 8.04, just one hundredth of a second shy of tying the school record that was set by Doug Calhoun in 1993.
The Cardinals split squads next weekend from Jan. 25-26, with part of the team returning to Bloomington for the IU Relays and the other portion of the squad traveling east to the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky.
