LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Amashi Kendall captured her third victory of the season in the weight throw and highlighted the University of Louisville track and field teams' performances at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Friday in Nutter Fieldhouse in Lexington, Ky.
Kendall had the squad's lone win on the day, registering a mark of 19.80m/64-11.50 in the weight throw. A senior, Kendall's season-best mark of 20.21m/66-3.75 was listed at No. 12 heading into Friday. Last year, the Owensboro, Ky., native recorded four wins in the event. Teammate Patrice Gates finished 12th in the event, and Hannah Baker recorded a personal best of 16.81m/55-2 to place 16th.
In his collegiate debut, Jeron Brown secured a 10th-place finish in the long jump competition. The Indianapolis, Ind., native had a leap of 6.85m/22-5.75, surpassing the BIG EAST qualifying standard and ensuring a bid to the conference's indoor championships in February.
Three other Cardinals registered either season- or personal-best marks at the meet. Chelsea Bingham cleared the bar at a season-best 3.65m/11-11.75 in the pole vault to finish seventh in the competition. Kim Cardeiro had a career-best showing in the long jump, and Hannah Cox posted a season best mark in the event.
Junior Maria Frigo and sophomore Michelle Molodynia highlighted Louisville's day at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington. Frigo finished fifth in the 3,000m behind a 14-second personal best, while Molodynia earned a season best in the mile to take 14th.
On the men's side, Andrew Stewart and Luke Lovelace earned BIG EAST qualifying marks in the mile. Stewart, who finished 13th among a strong pack, clocked a personal-best time of 4:10.80.
Louisville returns to competition at both events on Saturday, Jan. 26. Action at the Rod McCravy Memorial begins at 11 a.m., while starting time at the IU Relays is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. in the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
